When Persona 5 launched in 2017, I fell into my new RPG obsession. I loved nearly everything about the journey of the Phantom Thieves, but the characters and the story are what stuck with me long after I wrapped up the more-than-100-hour journey. So when Persona 5 Royal was announced, I couldn’t wait to jump back in and repeat the adventure with new characters, locations, and an additional story arc at the end. However, while I loved Persona 5 Royal (a lot, in fact), it left me wishing for an all-new story with the beloved cast of characters; I wanted to see how their friendships and lives evolved following the wild events of Persona 5. It may not be an RPG like the game it serves as a sequel to, but Persona … Read the rest

They say be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. To be honest, on Commencement Day at Syracuse University with my freshly inked Newhouse School of Television, Radio and Film Production diploma in hand, I could never have imagined the career that I have had so far.

It started with a phone call.

In 1995, my wife and I joined the newly launched MSN. As vendors, we managed the Television Community, soon followed by the Soaps Community. Several years later, we shifted gears and worked with the MSN team to host hundreds of celebrity chat events known as MSN Live. One day, in December of 2000, my wife received a call from a friend at MSN, asking if I might be interested in the newly created role of Editor-in-Chief of MSN Music.

It was the call that changed everything. At the time, I was working in the … Read the rest

AMD was the second big chipmaker to deliver a CES 2021 press conference, with Team Red announcing new Ryzen 5000 series processors for laptops while teasing new Radeon graphics cards and Big Navi on laptops coming soon. Here’s what you need to know!

First up, the number of new mobile chips that debuted in the 40-minute conference was kind of insane. AMD announced 13 new processors, including 10 models with current-gen Zen 3 designs and three with last-gen Zen 2 chips instead, with the latter mostly at the bottom end of the lineup and costing less. Like last year’s Ryzen 4000 chips, the new processors are split into high performance (‘H’) and ultra-thin-friendly (‘U’) designs, with six or eight cores in the vast majority. If you’re familiar with AMD’s Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7, Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 naming scheme on desktop, you’ll be pleased to know that the same … Read the rest

The Year of Klingon is continuing in Star Trek Online, with the next chapter of our epic story that shakes the Klingon Empire to its very core, Star Trek Online: House Shattered. Starring J.G. Hertzler (Martok from “Deep Space Nine”) and Robert O’Reilly (Gowron from “The Next Generation” and “Deep Space Nine”), we find players falsely accused of an attack on Khitomer, the center of diplomacy for the modern galaxy. In order to clear your name, you must hire a dangerous crew and break into Klingon Chancellor J’Mpok’s most private files. Can you survive this clandestine mission?

This is the second time J.G. Hertzler has returned to the role of Martok within Star Trek Online, just one of over 40 different classic Star Trek actors that have reprised their roles within our game. After becoming Chancellor in “Deep Space Nine,” Martok ruled peacefully for many years. But … Read the rest

Bloober Team knows a thing or two about weaving an incredible horror tale, and that streak continues with the upcoming psychological thriller, The Medium. To celebrate the upcoming launch of this titillating horror adventure, the studio behind the title just revealed a new live-action trailer that offers an eerie new look at the mystery behind it all.

The Medium is much more than just another scary experience. It’s a game that flirts with psychological warfare, meant to tease the player into a dualistic experience that thrives on uncertainty and a convoluted sense of reality. The live-action trailer goes beyond that, showing off even more disturbing elements to the world that The Medium has to offer:

Let’s hope MachineGames isn’t going to deliver the gaming equivalent of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Yesterday, Bethesda managed to snag the attention of movie and gaming geeks alike with a 30-second teaser trailer for a new Indiana Jones game. Confirmed to be in development from MachineGames (the studio behind the Wolfenstein series) and with input from Todd Howard and Lucasfilm Games, the as-yet-untitled project will be the first official Indiana Jones game since 2011’s Indiana Jones Adventure World. (That one was a Facebook browser game, in case like me you’d never heard of it until just now.)

But even a decade on from that last — let’s not pretend otherwise — underwhelming video game outing for old Indy, can this new game compete with the best of what’s come before?

The newly-announced project is, by my count, the nineteenth video game to see the player pick up a … Read the rest

The Last Guardian can run at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5, making it the ultimate way to play the game. That’s the headline and the video on this page speaks for itself. We’ve never seen director Fumito Ueda’s creation run so smoothly on any platform, and certainly not on its original release back in 2016. In fact, by default, the game runs at 30fps on PS5, requiring access to the original gold master version of the title – preserved on Blu-ray disc – to let this classic title spread its wings on Sony’s next generation hardware.

There are many legacy PlayStation 4 titles that see transformative improvements when run on PS5 under backwards compatibility, but The Last Guardian is special simply because of how challenging it is to run well on either of Sony’s last-gen machines, with frame-rates often dipping well beneath the 30fps target. And just whyRead the rest
