You can find one of the most powerful Assassin’s Creed Valhalla weapons, Norden’s Arc, hidden in an unremarkable pile of rocks.

Players have discovered that a small, otherwise-normal pile of rocks in the northern area of the game’s English map holds a peculiar secret for Vikings curious enough to venture a little out of their way.

As demonstrated in a helpful video by JorRaptor (thanks, Kotaku), all you need to do is head up to Northumbria and visit Brunson Turret. Then, if you make your way to a nearby lake, you’ll find a small island with a pile of rocks on it.

If you hit these rocks, you’ll find that there’s no breaking animation and no resource that comes tumbling out. However, if you’re miffed that you made the journey for no reason, all you need to do is hit the pile a couple of times, save your … Read the rest

The brilliant Hitman 3 from IO Interactive is here, an ambitious cross-platform project that sees the firm’s proprietary Glacier Engine deployed to more target platforms on launch day than we’ve seen in previous series entries. We’ll be taking a closer look at this latest iteration of the engine in more depth soon, examining the enhancements made to the technology and how they play out in Hitman 3’s new levels – as well as the legacy missions from the two prior titles, which are all playable within the new game. But in the here and now, it’s PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S that are under the microscope, and it’s the first title we’ve seen where Microsoft’s additional hardware investment delivers a tangible spec increase over the competition in a cross-platform game.

But really, where it truly matters, Hitman 3 delivers on all next-gen systems – principally via … Read the rest

Earlier this month, Capcom gave us an extensive first look at gameplay for the upcoming Resident Evil Village in addition to a detailed showing of the different collector’s editions available worldwide. Japan, however, took an already awesome collector’s edition and made it even better — at least for those that have $1,800 to spare.

The Complete Set Collector’s Edition comes with the standard Chris Redfield statue, a commemorative box, an art book, and more but it also comes with a wearable replica of Chris’ coat. That swanky style can be yours but it’ll cost you, because this particular set retails for $1,800 (or 192,500 yen in Japan).

Capcom

This isn’t the first time Capcom has done this, especially regarding the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil 6 also saw an expensive collector’s edition in Japan but with Leon Kennedy’s jacket. That set cost players $1,300, which is slightly more affordable than … Read the rest

Hitman 3 only came out this week, and already we’re seeing players absolutely smash the completion time of its first level.

If you’ve looked at the leaderboards since the game officially came out, you’ll know that some enterprising players are already smashing the six levels in the game, but Dubai in particular seems to be attracting some particularly quick attempts.

Currently, the world record completion for the level stands at a frankly baffling nine seconds. Nine! Verified by speedrun.com (via PCGamesN), two speedrunners completed the any% category for On Top of the World in under 10 seconds.

Wreak and Der_Lauch_Linus manage to achieve the remarkable feat by shooting the two targets you need to complete the level as soon as they spawn in at the beginning of the mission.

With a steady hand enough forethought, you can enter the level, run up the steps of the lobby in the … Read the rest

In the wake of the surprise ‘drop’ of the Resident Evil Village ‘Maiden’ demo for PlayStation 5 last night, the Digital Foundry team sat down to talk about their impressions of the new demo. John Linneman and Alex Battaglia are joined by series expert Alex Aniel, author of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial of Resident Evil. The result? The video embedded on this page!

Image quality makes for a good portion of the discussion, where the PlayStation 5 delivers a full 3840×2160, with Capcom deploying RE Engine’s excellent checkerboard-style image reconstruction technology to render up from a lower base resolution. It’s one of the more impressive implementations, looking very, very close to actual native rendering. The handling of materials and rich geometry in evidence in the demo also impressive, as does the HDR solution. In fact, the game doesn’t quite have the same punch viewed in standard SDR – blacks are … Read the rest

With Xiao coming soon, it’s a sure thing that you’re going to want coffers filled with resources to take advantage of the new banners in patch 1.3 We’ll be hanging out and enjoying the sights, the sounds, and the smells of freshly cooked food in the streets of Liyue as we experiment with a new tower defense offering and get to do more quests with our masked companion Xiao. I have a feeling that prior to the big drop of a next region, Xiao is going to quickly rise to the top ranks of Genshin popularity.

Xiao strikes me as a kind of Boba Fett character, where he makes a few awesome but minor appearances early and then becomes a character worthy of his own series later. Anyway, gift codes! Genshin Impact regularly releases codes that can give you gold, primogems, books, and more. Obviously, our big issue of … Read the rest

The latest Stardew Valley patch has arrived on PC, and is coming to consoles soon.

Stardew Valley patch 1.5.4  is now available and fixes some lingering issues from the 1.5 updates released in December.

It also makes slight adjustments to the game. ConcernedApe said in a blog post that this will hopefully be the last bug fix patch necessary for 1.5.

The patch is now in certification for consoles and is expected to be released later this month or in early February.

You can look over the patch notes below.

Hitman 3 arrived this week in what became the series’ biggest digital launch of all-time – and rightly so. As a culmination of the existing trilogy, Hitman 3 caps off the generation with the most impressive iteration of the Glacier Engine to date, with all existing current-gen Hitman content retrofitted into the latest game, while being essentially ‘remastered’ for next-gen consoles. PC owners can rejoice too – the game does everything that PS5 and Series X can and more besides, thanks to some nice upgrades and further scalability.

In delivering this article, IO interactive has furnished us with the exact PC settings for every console the game is running on. So, by using these settings on PC at the proper resolution, it is possible to see how a PC GPU fares in comparison to the consoles, with some interesting observations. First of all though, I’d like to give IO some … Read the rest
