A closer look at PS5 ray tracing in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

We’re finally getting to see more of the launch wave of PlayStation 5 titles, with Insomniac revealing a first look at hardware accelerated ray tracing effects in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. A huge improvement is clearly evident in reflections from the tallest skyscraper to the smallest puddle, but bafflingly, the reveal was met with some vitriol on social media. Artefacts and compromises were highlighted, with some even suggesting that we weren’t seeing ray tracing at all. The reality is clear though: hardware RT is an emerging feature on brand new consoles developers are just getting to know, it’s computationally expensive so compromises are inevitable – and what we’re seeing here is very impressive stacked up against similar hybrid RT implementations seen in the PC space.

Minecraft Caves and Cliffs is an update in the works for the game, and it will feature all sorts of new items along with goats.

Yes, goats are coming to Minecraft with the Caves and Cliffs update, and they are super cute.

Announced during Minecraft Live today, the update is being made to the cave and mountain system with improved cave generation and features things like “lush caves and dripstone caves.”

There will also be a brand new archeology system adding a sense of a history element to the game, and you can expect to see new crystals in the caves. You will also find telescopes, bundles, the sculk sensor block, and a new hostile mob called the Warden. This mob is well adapted to dark caves and reacts to movement instead sight.

25 Percent Of Ubisoft Employees Experienced Or Witnessed Workplace Misconduct

This Summer marked a distinct turning point regarding internal practices at Ubisoft and the community’s perception of the company all together. After numerous reports surfaced regarding abuse, misconduct, and power corruption leading to several high-profile execs being fired, the investigations into the underbelly of this studio’s culture continue. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot is leading the charge for the investigations and has published publicly the results of a recent employee survey. The results? Over 25 percent of employees witnessed or experienced firsthand workplace misconduct. 

The referenced survey was conducted by a third-party research company and revealed more about the work culture seen over the past several years. The survey was anonymous and encapsulated over 14,000 working employees. At 25%, one in four workers reported that they have either experienced workplace misconduct or witnessed it happening over the past two years alone. Activision impressed us with the brilliant Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and with the new Crash Bandicoot 4 – It’s About Time, it looks like a pattern is forming. The firm looks intent on mining its exhaustive IP, delivering remakes then moving onto brand new sequels. Based on the quality of this release, it’s a strategy that may well play off – Crash Bandicoot 4 is a solid game and an authentic series entry, with numerous improvements and upgrades that pay off while respecting the original formula. The new release also makes use of Unreal Engine 4, offering numerous technical improvements over the recent remakes including a much higher frame-rate – at least if you’re gaming on the right consoles.

Wired Productions and developer Tomas Sala have released a new trailer detailing factions in open-world air combat game The Falconeer.

In The Falconeer, you will choose between competing factions, all of which are at the mercy of the Great Ursee, a near-infinite body of water.

In the skies, the rich and the powerful have airships defended by mercenary Falconeers, while “revolution and dissent brews among the downtrodden and poor” on the waters below. But it isn’t clear who is the “good guy, or the bad guy.”
