The latest Call of Duty title has sold very well, breaking records through the weekend.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has had a stellar launch, breaking franchise records for its digital sales. The juggernaut franchise ploughed through the coronavirus pandemic to earn impressive numbers regardless.

There are few things that are certain in life. Taxes and Call of Duty selling really well are two of them though. This year’s entry appears to be no exception either.

In a rundown of recent sales, GamesIndustry.biz noted that Activision was out touting the performance of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Despite a pandemic, the title has done exceptionally well. Activision Blizzard’s EMEAA MD Anna Malmhake said in a statement, the game “set a new record as the highest first-day digital sales worldwide in franchise history.”

While we don’t know exact numbers, it’s likely we will later in the week.… Read the rest

Forza Horizon 4 isn’t just one of the best Xbox exclusives, it’s also one of the greatest racing games ever made. A couple of years back, we lauded excellent Xbox One, One X and PC versions – and loved the way that Microsoft’s enhanced console offered the option of 1080p60 racing, a first for the series. With the arrival of Xbox Series X and the junior S, 60fps is now the standard. Advantages for the new version are plain to see across the board, but surprisingly – and disappointingly – there are some visual cutbacks too.

With this new patch, Forza Horizon no longer has multiple performance modes to choose from. In theory, it should no longer need them. Xbox Series X has twice the GPU power of Xbox One X, so it stands to reason that One X’s 4K30 quality mode should transition to 4K60 on the new X. … Read the rest

With over ten games in the series, the Kingdom Hearts franchise has been going strong for nearly twenty years. Xbox players were only officially introduced to Sora and all the magic and splendor the series contains with Kingdom Hearts III’s release in 2019. More recently, the majority of the series with Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.6 ReMix and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue have been released on Xbox, and all available on Game Pass, too!

These various installments have expanded the world of Kingdom Hearts and introduced countless new characters, settings, and gameplay mechanics. If there’s one constant that’s been present in each game, aside from the magical pairing of Disney and original Kingdom Hearts characters, it would have to be the fantastic music.

While various composers and arrangers have contributed to the library of Kingdom Hearts music since the series’ inception, its main composer is … Read the rest

Animal Crossing encourages a wealth of creativity both in and out of the game. Some player’s create absurdly beautiful villages, others use it to host entire talk shows. The game has even inspired a clothing line. This time, a team of talented animators and artists show their love by crafting a gorgeous teaser video for a hypothetical Animal Crossing TV show.

The animation team, directed by freelance 3D animator Gabriel Salas, was put together during quarantine. . According to Salas, the idea stemmed from their appreciation for the works of Dwarf Studios as well as the Rilakkuma & Kaoru stop-motion film that premiered on Netflix in 2019.

“After playing New Horizons for a few days, I wondered how merging both universes would look like & thought it’d be fun to expand on Isabelle’s character a bit.” Salas writes in the video’s description. Read the rest

A new set of scientific research identifies Dark Souls III, Fall Guys and Mario Kart as the most stressful experiences you endure whilst gaming.

A new study, conducted by BonusFinder in collaboration with sports scientists and competitive gamers, discovered that the average players’ average heart rate increases the most whilst playing Dark Souls, but Fall Guys and Mario Kart – games supposedly aimed at the more casual side of the gaming market – also have a pretty significant impact.

In the study, 14 players were asked to play 16 of the most popular games currently on the market while having their heart rate monitored. Readings were taken of the BPM rate whilst playing, and compared to the subject’s baseline readings to get a measure of just how stressful various games were – and the results were quite interesting (thanks, TheGamer).

The study discovered that Dark Souls III caused … Read the rest

There was a place in Brighton a few years back that used to do a drink called London Fog. If you’ve never come across it, it’s a sort of Earl Grey latte, really – tea with a lot of hot, foamy milk, and something else, some glittering flavour, that I struggled to identify. The place closed down just as I was getting into them, London Fogs. I looked up a range of unsatisfactory online recipes, and then bodged together a few London Fog concepts of my own, all of which were completely undrinkable in thrillingly different ways. Then I found this cookbook a few weeks ago – Destiny: The Official Cookbook. Page 171. London Fog. Honey and almond milk. It’s good. Actually, it’s great!

The London Fog is a favourite of Devrim Kay, who I once met in the European Dead Zone. I remember him crouched in the church, maybe … Read the rest

A collaboration between Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and Untitled Goose Game seems like a match made in heaven for fans of silly fun and/or total mayhem. Dream no more, because the two properties have teamed up to bring Goose Game cosmetics to the multiplayer sensation.

Today, players can purchase a costume modeled after the hell-raising waterfowl. Like many outfits, the Goose costume is divided into head and bottom parts with each piece costing five Crowns.

For those unaware, Crowns can only be earned either by winning a full match (which is easier said than done) or by simply playing through Seasons and completing challenges. Thankfully, Mediatonic expedited the crown-earning process in Season 2, so adding the Goose costume to your wardrobe is less daunting than it would have been before.

I’d be remiss not to mention the update also includes a “honk” emote complete with sound effects. You know, just Read the rest

As players begin jumping into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, they are beginning to find long grinds ahead of them.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hit shelves yesterday, and players are already deep into the multiplayer experience. For many though, it looks like the grind for better usability in weapons is a little too much.

For engaged communities, a new game launching is always a big deal. Players will often take time off work, and begin their grind, especially in multiplayer games. Getting early advantages can be key, so putting a lot of time into the game in the first day or two is common practice.

For some players though, they are beginning to find that grind to be a little more than they bargained for. In a highly upvoted Reddit thread, the Call of Duty community is criticising the requirements to get ever-essential … Read the rest
